About the Department

Got a big heart? At Perth College UHI we can help turn your ambitions of making a difference in people's lives into realities.

Social science looks at the bigger questions in society, like why some people don’t fit in, and what makes some people commit crime. A qualification in health and social science prepares you for a broad range of jobs that aim to improve people’s lives - from social work to teaching - giving you the skills and knowledge that you need for a career working with people and for the community.

The health and social science department is also committed to giving adults who have been out of full-time education for more than three years the opportunity to follow their dream to work in the health sector, through the innovative Access to Nursing and Midwifery one-year course. Once you complete the course and interviews successfully, you will have the chance to go on to study at the University of Dundee School of Nursing and Midwifery.

The importance of this growing sector, both in Scotland and internationally, is reflected in the quality of health and social science research, teaching, training and consultancy run by Perth College UHI. For details of our continuing professional development opportunities click here.
