Eleanor Brown is our Head of Curriculum for Health, Education and Social Sciences.
She has spent more than 16 years working in colleges as far apart as Penzance and Perth. She has held a range of academic and management posts in health, care, social science, humanities, hair and beauty and, for a short period of time, construction.
Prior to becoming a teacher and educator Eleanor worked in retail and catering in a variety of roles, including sales and management within a family business.
Qualified in both the social sciences and teaching, she works closely with the NHS and Perth and Kinross Council Adult Care and the Social Work Training Department.
Eleanor and the Perth College UHI Health and Social Science department team work closely with local employers through, for example, the Care Employers’ Forum at Perth College UHI.
Her current role is to manage and develop full- and part-time courses in further and higher education, and ensure the achievement of quality academic standards across all levels, while still having a teaching commitment. She is part of a partnership with Perth and Kinross Council, NHS, Job Centre Plus, Careers Scotland, Skills for Scotland and a variety of training providers in the innovative Health and Social Care Academy scheme.
The Health and Social Science department enjoys well-resourced classrooms, in particular for the delivery of First Aid and related health and care courses. Good links with employers across the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors have led to excellent placements for students, often leading to employment.
The staff are all highly experienced in their various fields – ranging from nursing and social work to humanities and social sciences. All are committed to keeping their current practice up-to-date and are actively engaged in research activities. The team have links with the Care Inspectorate and SSSC - regulatory bodies for the sector.
