 Meet the Board 

 

 

Penny BrodiePenny Brodie, Chair of the Board of Management

Penny is the Director of Lead Scotland, a national organisation linking post-school education and disability, as well as supporting carers and those who may be socially or educationally isolated to participate in lifelong learning. Penny was the Chief Executive of Perth and Kinross Association of Voluntary Service (PKAVS) which provides services to the sector through a CVS, Volunteer Centre and direct service delivery to carers, adults experiencing mental ill health and individuals with mobility difficulties. 

Penny sits on: the Board of Governors of UHI; the Board and Policy Committee of SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations); and has been elected as a Fellow of the RSA; and is Chair of Perth FM Limited.  

 

Kirstie GrahamKirstie Graham, Clerk to the Board

Kirstie Graham joined Perth College UHI as Clerk to the Board of Management in November 2006 and is the Chair of the steering group for the College Secretaries Community of Practice. Previously she worked in education administration in a number of roles – as Secretary to the Graduate School of Science, Engineering and Medicine at the University of Manchester, Training Co-ordinator for the Faculty of Advocates and more recently for the Open University.

  

 

Mark BellMark Bell, Board Member

Mark works in Organisational Development and has extensive experience in executive and leadership development with a broad portfolio of clients including RBS, Scottish Power and Scottish Enterprise. He spent several years practising as a criminal defence lawyer in Edinburgh, then moved to Mars confectionary where he worked as National Account Manager, then headed up Boots the Chemist in Scotland.

Allan ClowAllan Clow, Board Member

Allan is currently Finance Director for the Interiors Division of Havelock Europa PLC.  Allan is a senior executive with 18 years' post-qualification experience across a variety of industrial sectors.  He has extensive experience of change management and business turnaround with  a track record of executing complex projects successfully.

 

 

 

  

Bill DuncanBill Duncan, Board Member

Bill is a retired Director of External Affairs with Bank of Scotland Corporate where he had previously held  Regional Director roles in both Operations and Relationship Banking. During this period he represented the Bank on numerous UK wide groups, attending regular meetings with the British Bankers Association, Bank of England, HM Treasury, Scottish Enterprise etc. 

 

Bill is Chairman of Perth Ice Rink (1988) Ltd and Central Scotland Ice Rinks, Vice Chairman of Perth & Kinross Leisure, as well as Junior Vice President of The Rotary Club of Perth.

 

He is a High Constable of the City of Perth, and has been heavily involved in the Chamber of Commerce movement, serving on the Board of Perthshire Chamber for 14 years, including a two-year period as President, and sitting on the Scottish Chambers Council.

 

Bill has been a member of a number of trade delegations with SCDI and Perth and Kinross Council to Germany, Poland and China, and is interested in fostering International trade links. He has also been a member of Perth and Kinross Economic Partnership, the Perth Marketing Group, and Perth City Centre Partnership.

  

Derek ForganDerek Forgan, Board Member

Derek was Head of Statutory Protection at Norwich Union from 2001 – 2008 and previous to that, Senior Integration Manager at CGU Ltd. He has wide-ranging experience in a number of disciplines including project, change and risk management as well as a deep understanding of finance.

Derek had major roles in integrating and restructuring functions in large and complex organisations, is skilled at stakeholder management and has a proven record of leading professional teams.

 

 

 

Ian JacksonIan Jackson, Board member

Ian is currently Director for Scotland at the General Dental Council where he works with stakeholders to better protect UK dental patients by engaging with diverse groups in Scotland on Scottish healthcare delivery and policy.

 

He has a long-standing interest in Scottish education, beginning with election to a school board in 1994. This led to him becoming a lay member of HMIE in 1996 and carrying on until the present day, recently completing his 77th inspection. Ian has served on the General Teaching Council for Scotland and is on the 13th Council (April 2012).

 

Ian’s work with HMIE was recognised when he was appointed MBE for services to education in Scotland in the New Year’s Honours List 2005.

 


Ian MarrIan Marr, Board Member

Ian is the Chief Executive of Perth and District YMCA where he oversees the organisation's work with local young people many of whom are experiencing difficulty with the transition from child to adult. This involves developing wide partnerships locally and nationally and internationally to ensure that the support offered to young people is well integrated within the community in the widest sense.

Born in Orkney, Ian studied at Aberdeen University for six years. Previously Ian was a local minister in the Church of Scotland for 11 years. He is involved in a number of local and national charities and a member of YMCA Scotland’s National Executive. He is also a local Rotarian.  
 

Ian MathersIan Mathers, Board Member

Ian is a self-employed business advisor working with  owner-managed businesses in Aberdeen and Tayside. He acts as mentor to the management as they seek to develop and grow their businesses in existing and new  markets.

He has more than 20 years' senior management experience in Corporate Banking working with Scottish small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), most recently as Regional Director, North of  Scotland with Bank of Scotland Corporate.

Ian is a member of the Management Board of Abertay Housing Association Ltd, a Registered Social Landlord which owns and manages a  mixed stock of 1800 houses; an aftercare advisor with The Prince’s Scottish  Youth Business Trust in Tayside; a member of the Senior Executive Programme,  part of Scottish Business in the Community. Previously a board member of Dundee  Chamber of Commerce and Tenovus, a charity supporting medical  research. 

 

PrincipalThomas Moore, Perth College UHI Principal, Board Member

Our Principal, Dr Thomas Moore, trained as a nurse before gaining a teaching qualification in a further education college in Belfast, which gave him a lifelong passion for learning. He then worked in a range of education, policy and managerial positions, most recently within the Welsh Assembly government and Glyndwr University in North Wales. No stranger to Scotland, Dr Moore previously worked for NHS Grampian in Aberdeen and in the Robert Gordon University as Associate Dean and Head of School.  Dr Urquhart

Dr James Urquhart, Board Member 

Dr Urquhart is an independent business recovery specialist and a psychoanalytic organisational Consultant. Previously he was a Lecturer in the School of Management at the University of St. Andrews, Dean of a University level Graduate School of Business in Dublin, Ireland and a business owner. He has also been a Visiting Professor in France and Germany. Trained in Jungian group analysis, he is a member of the Scottish Institute of Human Relations, Edinburgh.
