 What to bring to your first class 

 

You may need to bring some items to your first leisure class, depending on the subject you're studying. Here is a quick guide to our most popular classes, but if you have any queries, please contact us on pc.admissions@perth.uhi.ac.uk or telephone 0845 270 1177.

 

Dressmaking

Tape measure, pins, needles, scissors and tacking thread. Around 1 metre of calico and a pattern for trousers (any type except jeans). a tunic top or skirt.

 

Beginners Italian
Italianissimo 1 – available from Waterstone's and Amazon. ISBN 0 563 519 061

 

Elementary Italian
Italianissimo 2 – available from Waterstone's and Amazon. ISBN 0 563 364 211

 

Spanish
Pasos 1 – A first course in Spanish. Available from Amazon (as are used copies) and Waterstone's

 

Soft Furnishings

Tape measures, calculators, pen and paper, Full equipment and material list will be issued with lesson plan on week one.

 

Stained Glass

A glass cutter and safety glasses are required for the first class. Toyo is the suggested make for glass cutters and these can be purchased online from suppliers such as Creative Glass Guild or Tempsford Stained Glass  

A full equipment list will be issued on week one.  The costs of materials will vary according to your chosen design, but they are likely to be in the region of £40-50.

Upholstery Workshop
Bring a piece of furniture, Tack staple lifter, light mallet, hammer, scissors, pincers, tape measure, pen and paper.

Ideal first time projects include: Dining chairs; Small tub chairs; Caned seats or back footstools with horse hair.

 

Please make sure your tetanus is up-to-date as you will be dealing with potentially dirty stuffings and it is easy to scratch yourself whilst working. Better safe than sorry!

 

Woodcarving
Lime wood blank 6x6x1 inch or larger and backing board 2 inches larger all around than your project. Bring drawings or artwork for your project.
